Studying Spanish in Mexico
For many, Mexico means beautiful beaches. Sun, sand and tequila! But there is huge diversity in Mexico which is actually a very mountainous country.
While I love the beach, I have, in recent years, been gravitating toward the colonial towns in the mountains.
By renting an apartment, or a casita, one can begin to embrace the culture. Shopping in the mercados, learning the bus system, and speaking to the locals in their own language.
So, that meant going to school to learn Spanish!
I have been to school in the beautiful city of Oaxaca. Spanish Magic was my choice. A small, friendly school which is centrally located. A highlight was when our teacher took us to the market for lunch. There are many schools in Oaxaca, all with excellent reputations. Home stays are also popular.
In San Miguel de Allende I have attended Habla Hispana for two years in a row. The school is run by two welcoming sisters, Angelica and Marta. The vibe is relaxed and they are willing to accommodate you in every way. Small group classes or private lessons. Also, activities most afternoons. Tours of the city, cooking classes and more!
It's so great to learn Spanish and then go out and use it. The locals appreciate your efforts and are very willing to assist you when you make a mistake!
Enjoy your time in Mexico. The locals are friendly and welcoming!
